5 tips to optimize your space Notion
In today's episode, we'll decode five tips shared by William Nut, the founder of Notion VIP, for optimising his Notion space.
As a reminder, Notion is a collaborative workspace where you can organise your project notes and documents.
The big news about this tool is the announcement of the beta version of the API which released on 13 May.
So now is a good time to get to grips with the application and make the most of William's advice.
Tip #1: Learn the basics of Notion
Notion contains workspaces, these workspaces contain pages and these pages in turn contain blocks.
One of the most important parts to be familiar with are the databases: they can exist as blocks in the pages, but can also be opened as their own pages.
Tip 2: Discover the advanced features of these databases
Databases are the strength of the tool: they allow you to organise, visualise and summarise your information. These advanced capabilities intimidate many users.
To better understand them, go to Notion.so and type in the search bar "database", you will then come across guides on all database representations: board view, table view or calendar view.
Tip 3: Don't reinvent the wheel
When planning your workspace, try to recreate templates that meet your needs. Take inspiration from the templates available on your notion space, at the bottom of the left-hand bar, or go to the Notion subreddit where all the tool enthusiasts share their templates or visuals of their personal space.
Tip 4: Use keyboard shortcuts
There are many, but here are three that are easy to remember and very useful:
- To display the block menupress cmd (or CTRL) + /
- To do a quick searchyou must press cmd (or CTRL) + k
- To start a to do listTo start a to-do list, make a left and a right bracket to form a square and then press the space key.
Tip number 5: Make it look good
If the icons proposed by Notion are not enough for you, you can expand your palette with those proposed by The Noun Project or Google Fonts. Concretely, on your Notion space, click on the icon you want to change and paste the link in the "link" tab.
For the colour palette, choose only two or three. Notion's limited colour choices support a balance between simplicity and functionality.
If you follow these tips, your Notion space will be more powerful for collaborative work.
