80% of technologies will be created by Nocode Makers by 2024
For years we have known software development as an elaborate and complex process. Then came the Nocode tools that are transforming software creation into a simpler process with shorter turnaround times. And in its latest study, Gartner confirms the trend by revealing that by 2024, 80% of new products and services will be created outside of IT. We can no longer do without it, Nocode is now history.
Two reasons for the Nocode phenomenon according to Gartner
First of all, there is no hiding the fact that this is one of the indirect consequences of the health crisis, with a lightning acceleration of the digital transformation.
The Covid-19 crisis has only increased the number and type of use cases that technology must address. By 2023, Gartner predicts that $30 billion in revenue will be generated by products and services that did not exist before the pandemic.
The second reason is that technology providers are increasingly being challenged by non-technology companies at the core, highly innovative players, especially in financial services and retail. "The latter are creating IT-based solutions more frequently and with more ambition. As a result, more than a third of technology providers will be competing with non-technology providers by 2024.
And this is not going to stop, as Gartner expects a proliferation of technology launch announcements from non-technology companies over the next 12 months.
The role of the ISD is still in the process of transformation
As Rajesh Kandaswamy, VP Research at Gartner, explains:
CEOs now see digital business as a team sport, not a preoccupation of the CIO. The explosion of digital data, the growing adoption of Nocode development tools, and AI-assisted programming are among the many factors enabling the democratisation of technology development beyond IT professionals.
The technology barrier in software creation is falling thanks to Nocode development tools. And when asked what types of technology products and services these results apply to, Kandaswamy replied "all of them".
"The arrival of business technologists offers new sources of innovation and the ability to do work differently. Therefore, technology and service providers will need to extend their sources of ideas and technology development to new communities, whether they are based on citizen engagement (Citizen Makers), their own customer communities or other sources (such as Nocode Makers)," concludes Rajesh Kandaswamy.
