Baroscope: Nocode raises $1.15 billion in Q1 2022
With $4.7 billion raised by publishers in one year, 2021 was the year of Nocode. 2022 will be its consecration. The attraction of these technologies is confirmed after this first quarter, with $1.15 billion in funds raised. The year is therefore off to a good start - even stronger than the previous one.
🗓 The first three months of 2022 raised over $1 billion and $146 million
🚀 January 2022 is off to a great start. Indeed, over $369 million has been raised by 10 Nocode startups.
In particular, the Finnish company Yahaha Studio raised $50 million in three rounds of financing. This platform offers the possibility of creating games and metavers for free, in Nocode. It also offers to monetise them on different platforms such as iOS and Android.
As well as CaptivateIQ 's exceptional Series C fundraising which raised over $100 million from investors at a valuation of $1.25 billion.
We also note that Softr, the famous business application builder, has raised more than 13.5 million dollars in Series A. The goal is to no longer depend solely on Airtable databases but to open up the creation of business applications to more data source tools (Google Sheets, SQLs, APIs, etc.).
Finally, it is interesting to note that the combination of Nocode and artificial intelligence seems to be attracting more and more investors. German company Wandelbots, which takesautomation to the next level with robotic technology that can be accessed without coding, raised $84 million earlier this year. The aim is to enable the company to build a community of developers around its robotic instruction software.
🏆 The major investment was in February.
Genesis is the winner with over $200 million raised via a Series C round "led primarily by Tiger Global Management", according to the startup's founders. Genesis is a platform for buildingNocode applications for the financial markets. Genesis enables financial markets organisations to innovate at high speed with a Nocode platform that saves developers time in building resilient, high-performance and secure applications. The latter is a priority for Genesis.
Interesting to mention is also Skael, a US-based enterprise process automation platform that raised nearly USD 40 million in Series A funding. The company attracted investors by presenting its annual revenues of seven million dollars per year, with a yearly sales growth estimated at over 240%.
🔢 In March there have been plenty of investments in Nocode.
We counted no less than 11 startups that successfully raised funds for a total of $526 million.
Let's remember that $355 millions were raised by 3 players at a fairly advanced stage of maturity:
- Webflow, the popular site builder, with a $120 million Series C round.
- Typeform, one of the most popular online form editors, with a Series C round of funding for over $135 million.
- Builder.AI, an AI-powered low-code/no-code application development platform, which has surpassed $100 million in Series C funding.
🌏 In which countries are Nocode investments most significant?
Out of 27 fundraisings, 13 are from companies located in the US, representing almost 50% of total investments. While this share remains significant on the international stage, other Nocode nations are emerging, notably in Europe (Europe's share of Nocode fundraising in 2022 has grown significantly compared to Q1 2021).
🥈 After the US, Spain is raising the most money for Nocode companies. Almost $132 million has been raised by investors for Spanish Nocode startups.
🥉 Special mention to Finnish companies, which managed to accumulate more than $50 million in the first quarter of 2022.
🌱 ➝ 🌳 2022 : The nocode gains in maturity
The Nocode market is still growing, with more than 1 billion in investments captured in early 2022. The difference with the previous year (Q1 2021) is in the maturity of the projects. Indeed, the majority of investments are in series C.
Only 7 investments were made in startups in the seed or pre-seed stage, which represents almost a quarter of the number of Nocode companies that have successfully raised funds. In 2021, more than 75% of the companies that raised funds were in the seed stage.
Last year, only two deals were made in Series A, whereas this year more than 20 startups have raised funds at this stage of maturity or higher.
It is worth noting that automation, visual programming and landing page tools alone accounted for half of the investments in Nocode startups in the first quarter of 2022.
